Liverpool FC is kickstarting a revolution in cyber security recruitment

Liverpool Football Club (LFC) has partnered with Phoenix Sports and Media Group, together with BIT Group, Hack The Box, and IT certifications company CompTIA, to deliver a scheme that transitions individuals who have dropped out of its football academy into professional cyber security training.

The scheme was established after an initial 14-week trial programme was deemed successful, and it’ll form part of LFC’s efforts to ensure that former youth players who’ve devoted their early lives to the club are repaid with other opportunities, that’ll support them in channelling their drive and passion into other industries.

Students who sign-up to the course will get a basic understanding of IT and cyber security skills, with training from BIT Training and CompTIA, that’ll enable them to secure the CompTIA IT Fundamentals certification after passing the exam, which will act as a platform into whichever cyber security specialism they choose.

The cyber security industry has been working to attract talent for years with global vacancies still in the millions, according to the International Information System Security Certification Consortium, otherwise known as (ISC)2, as such the organisations involved in the LFC scheme hope that other schemes like this can be rolled out across the UK, so they can begin to channel young, driven individuals into an industry that’s crying out for fresh talent.
